Hangboard Timer
ME218D First PCB
Fall 2012
This cool little gadget allows rock climbers to battle against a timer as they hang for days on a hangboard. The board uses a force sensor strapped to one finger to detect when the climber starts and stops hanging, and then shows the time on a 7-segment display.
The PCB is pretty simple, there's a spot for a PIC16f690 (the ME218 standard) in the center, and around it are pads for a 7805 5V voltage regulator from the AAA batteries, junctions for the force sensor and on/off switch, and the resistors for the 7-segment display, which solders onto the bottom row using a ribbon cable.
